Living by his oft-quoted credo “Loyalty, Effort and Enthusiasm”, as an educator, coach, administrator, mentor, friend, and athletic advocate, Tom Carmody’s illustrious career spanned over a half-century of achievement and success. After a coaching career that took him from Bethel Park High School in his native Pittsburgh, to Penn State, Duke, and the University of Rhode Island, Carmody began his association with Johnson & Wales in the seventies. Through the nineties, he was an integral part of the Department of Admissions for the School of Technology. Then in 1998, he was asked to assist in the administration of a department near and dear to his heart--intercollegiate athletics. From 1999 to 2002, Carmody oversaw the rapid growth and astounding development of the Johnson & Wales athletics program. In three short years as the director of athletics, Carmody instilled professionalism and vision, provided leadership and an uncanny sense of direction. Armed with many a story, the most firm of handshakes, an astute knowledge of collegiate sports, and an engaging personality, he helped to vault Wildcat athletics to new heights at the start of the new millennium.
