A two-time junior college All-American in 1971 and 1972, Hollie Walton smashed records before, during and after his JWU career. After setting a long-standing Rhode Island schoolboy record in the mile, and after winning both the New England and Eastern States high school championships, Walton came from Hope High in Providence to JWU. He set the standard by which runners have since been measured. He finished third at the 1971 NJCAA national championship, and sixth in the 1972 NJCAA race, after winning the New England regional title in the mile run in both years. Upon graduating from JWU, Walton became an All-American and a national champion while at Texas-El Paso in 1974. Returning to JWU, Hollie served as the Director of Intramurals for over twenty years.
