Among the most feared hitters in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), first baseman Eric Carsner was a three-time all-league selection, and was the GNAC Player of the Year in 2004. Selected to the NCAA Division III All-New England team in 2003 and 2004, the native of Luna Pier, Michigan set the Johnson & Wales record for batting average in a single season with a .455 mark in 2002. Two years later, he set the school’s career record for batting average at .431, and his 148 career hits ranked him fifth in JWU history. He finished his outstanding Wildcat career ranked seventh in runs batted in (93), and fifth in home runs (11). Equally adept defensively, Carsner led the Wildcats in fielding percentage in his last two seasons. He was the offensive leader on a team that won the ECAC championship in 2004. In 2005, he became the first Wildcat to sign a professional baseball contract, signing to play with the Dohrem Wild Farmers of the European Baseball League.
