Simply put, Jim Gary was the consummate 'team player.' Another of the Connecticut high school basketball players of the mid-to-late sixties recruited by then-coach John Yena, Gary’s all-around game was a solid one. A sturdy swingman, his rebounding skills and defensive contributions were a by-product of hustle, determination and work ethic. He helped take the Wildcat basketball team of 1969-70 to a regional championship and the NJCAA national tournament along with Nate Adger, Jake Edwards, Mike Polite, and Fred Tyson. Often referred to as that fabled club’s 'fifth starter,' Gary’s teamwork and unselfish play translated into success. Graduating from JWU, Gary completed his collegiate career at Bryant College.
