His strength, scoring ability and sportsmanship made Nate Adger the most prolific basketball player in Johnson & Wales University’s early history. Twice the team's leading scorer and rebounder, Adger was the key cog of the fabled 1969-70 JWU team that reached the NJCAA Championships and came within a point of upsetting the country's number-one team at the national tournament. Not until JWU became a four-year institution did anyone break Adger's rebounding and scoring records. One of the Connecticut high school greats who were recruited by Dr. John Yena, Adger went on to even greater heights when he graduated from JWU and became a starter at the University of Rhode Island.
