"It has been a dream of mine since I arrived at JWU to bring the national tournament to Providence," said longtime JWU head coach Lonnie Morris. "I'm excited for our student-athletes to compete for a national championship in front of our fans. We're going to pack the AMP and create an environment for wrestling that has never been seen before. We want Providence to become a regular host city for this event and we're going to do everything we can to make that a reality."

Last season, the Wildcats placed fourth at the NCAA Tournament and saw five student-athletes named All-American, led by senior and two-time defending national champion Joziah Fry (125 lbs.), a native of Coventry, Rhode Island. Fry owns a career record of 113-1 with his lone loss coming last season in a match against a Division I student-athlete from Lehigh.

Other JWU locals who will likely be competing at the even include freshman Peyton Ellis (Coventry, R.I.) and junior Adolfo Betancur (Johnston, R.I.). Ellis boasts a 25-1 record thus far in 2024-25 and is ranked No. 2 in the latest The Open Mat rankings. Betancur, meanwhile, owns a 20-5 record and is ranked No. 11.

The Wildcats – who have a total of seven student-athletes in the national rankings – are also ranked No. 1 in the Team Tournament Rankings.
