MANHEIM, Pa. – Five members of the JWU (Providence) wresting program –
Anthony Fernandez,
Luke Montefusco,
Jack Richardson,
Brayden Soleau, and
Jared Spahn – have received National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-American Awards, recognizing outstanding academic achievement by individual student-athletes across the nation.
Student-athletes most maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher, and maintain a winning pct. of .666 or higher or place at regionals. A total of 473 student-athletes representing 105 institutions were recognized for their academic success in the classroom while competing throughout the season.
Richardson is a junior majoring in exercise and sports science who placed fifth at the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championship earlier this month. Soleau, meanwhile, is a business management major who took home New England Wrestling Association (NWCA) Rookie of the Week honors in December.
Montefusco – who placed first at 149 lbs. at the Bridgeport Open on November 22 – is majoring in business administration. Fernandez (finance) placed fifth at the Wildcat Open at 197 lbs. on January 24 while Spahn (exercise science) claimed fifth place at NCAA Northeast Regionals (149 lbs.).
