ASHAWAY, R.I. – The
JWU-Providence IHSA Team opened the 2023-24 campaign by being named Champion Team at its home competition at Hunter Ridge with URI, Roger Williams, Salve Regina, Brown, and RIC.
The Wildcats finished the competition with 27 points. The Rams received Reserve Champion status as it finished with 23 points while the Seahawks and Hawks shared third-place (21 points), and the Bears and Anchormen tied for fourth (11 points).
Julia Shiels placed first in the Class 2B Novice Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat and, in the process, qualified for regional finals.
Lauren Murray placed third in the event.
Adaline Hanes captured first in Class 4 Limit Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences while
Samantha Stepanik placed second in the Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat and third in the Class 8 Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences.
Dory Stefanowicz went on to place third Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat and fourth in Class 8 Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences.
Candice Mirto earned third in Class 6 Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences.
