REHOBOTH, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) IHSA program was named Champion Team at a show hosted by Salve Regina and Roger Williams Saturday afternoon at Bluemead Stables.
The Wildcats finished with 35 points, which placed them ahead of URI (29), Brown (27), Salve Regina (27), Roger Williams (11), Rhode Island College (nine), and Holy Cross (three).
Junior
Scarlett Siskind (Intermediate Flat) placed first and qualified for regionals. Senior
Samantha Stepanik (Open Fences) and sophomore
Grace Taylor (Open Flat) and recorded first-place finishes. Siskand becomes the first regional qualifier of the season while Stepanik was tabbed Reserve High Point Rider.
Sophomore
Kate Scherer took second in Limit Flat Section A to become the second rider to qualify for regionals; she also placed second in Limit Fences. Other second-place finishers included Stepanik in Open Flat, junior
Caitlin Talbot in Introductory Flat, and freshman
Isabella Lawson in Pre-Novice Flat.
Taylor (Open Fences) and freshman
Laura Kamel (Novice Flat Section A) recorded third place finishes while Siskind (fourth in Intermediate Fences), junior
Isabelle Pacella (fourth in Limit Flat Section B), and junior
Lucas Ford (sixth in Novice Flat Section B) also competed for JWU.
With the win, JWU moved into the lead in the region with 61 points, followed by URI (59), Brown (49), Salve Regina (47), RWU (30), RIC (25), and Holy Cross (three).
