ASHAWAY, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) IHSA program opened the second half of the season with a third-place finish on Saturday at Hunter Ridge.
Kate Scherer qualified for regionals in limit fences with a second-place finish in section B.
Scarlett Siskind also qualified for regionals in intermediate fences with a second-place finish.
Ashley Vie took first in limit flat section C while
Grace Taylor (open fences),
Emma Palagonia (limit flat section A),
Caitlin Talbot (prenovice), and
Jillian Gauch (novice flat section B) captured second place in their events.
Third-place finishers included Scherer (intermediate flat section B) and
Isabella Lawson (novice flat section A).
URI and Brown earned a share of first place with 31 points, followed by JWU (28), Roger Williams (24), Salve Regina (16), Rhode Island College (10) and CHC (10), Wesleyan (CT) (nine), and Yale (two).
The Wildcats are currently 14 points behind URI for first place in the region heading into their final show of the regular season on March 14. Taylor (59 points) trails Emily Richardson (URI) for leading Cacchione Rider.
Additionally, JWU will send a total of six student-athletes to regionals: Scherer, Siskind, Taylor (Open Flat), Vie (Novice Flat), Talbot (Intro Flat), and
Isabelle Pacella (Limit Flat).
