Seekonk, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) IHSA program wrapped its regular season with a fourth-place finish at its home show on Saturday, March 14 at Sunflower Meadows.
Grace Taylor opened the show with a first-place performance in Open Flat while
Samantha Stepanik placed second. Stepanik followed with a win in Open Fences, followed by Taylor in second. Following a written equine knowledge test, Taylor won High Point Rider of the Day.
As a result, Taylor moved atop the leaderboard in High Point Open Rider for Region 1 and will represent the Wildcats at the Zone 1 Championship in April. Stepanik, meanwhile, secured a spot at regionals in both Open Flat and Open Fences.
Isabelle Pacella claimed second in Limit Fences while
Emma Palagonia did the same in Section B of the Limit Flat.
Caitlin Talbot stayed consistent in the PreNovice Division this week with a second-place finish.
Laura Kamel took fourth in the first section of Novice Flat and in the second section,
Delena Atwater claimed second and
Jillian Gauch took fourth. In the process, Gauch qualified for regionals and pointed herself into Limit Fat and Fences for the upcoming season.
Other competitors included
Adaline Hanes (fifth in Intermediate Over Fences and sixth in Intermediate Flat Section A),
Sofia Vaca (sixth in Introduction Equitation),
Ashley Vie (sixth in Limit Flat Section C), and Pacella (sixth in Intermediate Flat Section B).
On Sunday, March 22, eight student-athletes will compete at Zone 1 Region 1 Finals at Hunter Ridge:
