Box Score The Johnson & Wales Baseball team defeated the Blazers of Elms college on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats' third straight victory clinched them a berth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship on Sunday, with game one starting at 12:00pm.
JWU fell behind early, with the Blazers scoring two runs in the fist frame. Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.) responded with a two-run home run of his own to knot the score at two. The teams traded five runs each from the top of the second to the top of the fourth inning.
JWU opened up the game in the bottom of the fourth frame, with EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) hitting a three run home run to start the scoring in the inning. The Wildcats finished with six in the frame and added two more on a two RBI double from Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.) in the bottom of the fifth inning, taking a 15-7 lead.
Elms scored five in the top of the seventh inning, but the Wildcat pitchers held the Blazers in the top of the eight and ninth innings, earning an 18-12 win.
The Wildcats will take on the St. Joseph College (Me.) Monks on Sunday afternoon with a chance for their second straight GNAC title, with the first game starting at 12:00pm.
