The Johnson & Wales Baseball team defeated the Falcons of Albertus Magnus college in a single-elimination game on Tuesday evening, 12-2.  The Wildcats advance to the double-elimination portion of the GNAC tournament, starting on Thursday.

JWU opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, with Thorin Sanchez-Guerra (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) hitting a solo home run to left field.  Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.) added a home run in the bottom of the third inning, giving JWU a 3-0 lead.

Albertus grabbed one run back in the top of the fifth inning, but JWU scored eight runs of the sixth and seventh inning, with Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Owen Davis (Bristol, Conn.) hitting RBI singled in the bottom of the seventh.

The teams traded runs in the eighth inning, and JWU closed out the game in the top of the ninth, taking a 12-2 victory.

Dane DellaValle (Howell, N.J.) pitched eight innings for the Wildcats, earning the victory with seven strikeouts.

The Wildcats travel to take on Anna Maria on Thursday afternoon and will take part in the double-elimination tournament, which continues on Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph's College (Me.)
