Box Score The Johnson & Wales Baseball team hosted the Cardinals of Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Connecticut school 16-3 in nine innings. JWU drops to 4-17 while Wesleyan improves to 10-8.
The visitors jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first frame before adding a third on a single to left field in the top of the second inning. The third inning saw the most scoring, with the Cardinals adding four runs to their lead to extend it to 7-0.
The Wildcats got two back in the bottom of the third frame on a two-run home run by Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) that drove home Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.). Over the next five innings, the Cardinals added nine runs until the Wildcats got one back when Nicolas Fortes (Cranston, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning. Fortes scored the last un of the game, with the Wildcats falling 16-3.
JWU gets back on the field on Saturday when they welcome the Norwich Cadets to the SMAC for a 1:00pm doubleheader.
