Box Score 2 The Johnson & Wales Baseball team fell in a pair of games to the Raiders of Rivier University on Saturday afternoon. Following the losses, the Wildcats closed the season 11-7 in GNAC play, finishing as the 3 seed in the conference.
Game 1: Rivier 4, JWU 2
The game went back and forth, with the teams traded a pair of runs each from the bottom of the second to the top of the fifth inning. The Wildcats scored on a pair of RBI singles, one by Riley Hasson (South Portland, Me.) and one by Thorin Sanchez-Guerra (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), with the latter knotting the score at 2 in the top of the fifth inning.
A two run double in the bottom of the frame gave the Raiders a 4-2 lead, and they closed out the game in seven innings by that score.
Game 2: Rivier 7, JWU 5
Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Rivier hit a two-run home run. The hosts added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Wildcats scored four in the top of the sixth, with AJ Braid hitting a three-run home run to right field to give JWU a 4-3 lead.
The Raiders scored four in the bottom of the frame, taking a 7-4 lead. Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) connected on a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Wildcats were unable to complete the comeback, falling 7-5.
The Wildcats finished as the #3 seed in the GNAC tournament and are hosting the Falcons of Albertus Magnus at 5:30pm.
