Box Score 2 The Johnson and Wales Baseball Team emerged victorious in a pair of games against the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon. Following the doubleheader, JWU improves to 4-16 (3-3 GNAC), while the Chargers fall to 6-15 (3-5 GNAC).
Game 1: JWU 13, Colby-Sawyer 3
The Wildcats jumped to an early lead over the Chargers after a hit from EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.0 in the bottom of the first. JWU added five runs in the bottom of the second frame, headlined by a pair of back-to-back homeruns by Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) and Xavier Botelho (Rehoboth, Mass.), taking a 6-0 lead.
JWU continued to find success on the offensive end as they opened an 11-0 lead after the fifth inning. The Chargers were unable to respond, only coming up with 3 runs in the top of the sixth. After a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats closed out game one with a commanding 13-3 victory.
Game 2: JWU 21, Colby-Sawyer
Starting in similar fashion to game one, JWU jumped to an early lead after a pair of runs in the first inning brought in on a hit by Owen Davis (Bristol, Conn.). The Wildcats added 12 runs over the next two innings, highlighted by a pair of 2 RBI singles, one from Gus Lappin (South Portland, Me.) in the second and another from Riley Hasson (South Portland, Me.) in the third.
The Wildcats added runs over the following frames, with a three-run homerun in the sixth by Hasson giving the hosts a 21-0 advantage. Kyle Cutler (East Hampton, Conn.) finished his complete game shutout, allowing only one hit in seven innings.
The Wildcats take the field again as they welcome Wesleyan (Conn.) for a non-conference game at 4:00 pm on Tuesday at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
