Box Score 2 The Johnson & Wales Baseball team took a pair of GNAC tilts on Saturday afternoon, beating the Albertus Magnus Falcons 4-1 and 11-4. JWU improves to 12-20 (10-4 GNAC) while Albertus dropped to 7-20 (5-9 GNAC).
Game 1: JWU 4, Albertus Magnus 1
The Falcons took the lead in the top of the third inning when Matt Lewczyk singled home Nhasean Murphy, taking a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats responded in the bottom half of the frame when Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.) and tie the game at one.
The game stayed tied until the bottom half of the sixth inning, when Thorin Sanchez-Guerra (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tripled to center field to drive home EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) and Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.) to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game at 3-1. Riley Hasson singled to bring home Sanchez-Guerra and give the Widlcats a 4-1 lead.
Dane DellaValle (Howell, N.J.) closed out the game in the top of the seventh inning, earning the complete game victory.
Game 2: JWU 11, Albertus Magnus 4
Albertus grabbed the lead early again in game two, scoring one in the top of the first inning. After the Wildcats knotted the score in the bottom of the first, the Falcons grabbed three more runs in the top of the second inning on a pair of home runs to left field, taking a 4-1 lead.
The Wildcats responded, scoring five runs over the next two frames to take a 6-4 lead. Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.) doubled home two runs and Leone hit a solo home run in the stretch. JWU did not allow the Falcons to score again while adding five more runs themselves, taking the game 11-4 in seven innings.
The Wildcats get back on the field on Sunday when they travel to take on the Elms Blazers in a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm.
