Baseball Drops Pair To Anna Maria

The Johnson & Wales Baseball team dropped a pair of GNAC contests to the AMCats of Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon.  Following the doubleheader, JWU sits at 2-16 (1-3 GNAC) while Anna Maria is 13-8 (4-0 GNAC).

Game 1: Anna Maria 4, JWU 0

The AMCats took the leads in the bottom of the first innings, scoring two on an RBI single before adding two runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Dane DellaValle (Howell, N.J.) pitched six innings for the Wildcats, but JWU was unable to drive a runner home and fell in game 1, 4-0.

Game 2: Anna Maria 20, JWU 8

The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the first inning on a grand slam from first-year Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.).  Anna Maria responded with a seven-run inning of their own in the bottom of the frame, taking a 7-4 advantage.  After trading runs, the Wildcats added three in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the lead to two at 10-8.

The hosts added ten more runs over the final three times they batted, with the Wildcats falling 20-8.

JWU gets back in action on Sunday when they welcome Colby-Sawyer to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex at 12:00pm for a GNAC doubleheader.
