Box Score 2 The Johnson & Wales Baseball Team traveled to take on the Bulldogs of Dean College on Saturday afternoon, earning a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference victories. Following the sweep, JWU sits at 10-19 (8-4 GNAC) while Dean is 7-19 (5-6 GNAC).
Game 1: JWU 21, Dean 9
The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.) hit a three-run home-run to left field. Dean responded with a two run RBI single in the bottom half of the frame, cutting the Wildcat lead to one at 3-2.
JWU opened up the game in the top of the third inning, scoring six runs that were headlined by a Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.) two run single. The Wildcats took a 9-3 lead into the fourth inning where they added two more runs that ended up being the game winners.
Snyder hit his second home run of the day in the top of the fifth inning, extending the lead to 14-4. The Wildcats eventually taking game one 21-9.
Game 2: JWU 11, Dean 6
The Wildcats jumped out to a lead in the second game on a pair of solo home runs by Riley Hasson (South Portland, Me.) and Thorin Sanchez-Guerra (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) in the top of the second inning.
After adding a third in the second frame, JWU added four in the top of the fourth inning, with back to back home runs from Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) and Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.) taking a 7-0 lead.
Over the fourth and sixth frames, the hosts grabbed six runs to cut the lead to one, but the Wildcats responded in the top of the seventh and final frame to score five runs. Hasson drove home the fifth run on an RBI single that drove home Sanchez-Guerra, taking an 11-6 victory.
JWU returns home on Tuesday when they welcome Roger Williams to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex for a 4:00pm start.
