Box Score The Johnson & Wales Baseball team defeated the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy behind fifteen runs over eight innings to take a 17-3 victory. JWU improved to 7-19 while Mass. Maritime dropped to 11-10.
The Buccaneers opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning, driving home a run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. JWU got that run back on the third batter of the game when Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.) drove home Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.). Griffin Snyder followed it up with a two-run double to plate Kelly and Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.) to take a 3-1 lead.
The Buccaneers scored one in the top of the second before the Wildcats scored seven unanswered, headlined by a two run home run by EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) in the bottom of the fourth inning. JWU kept the Buccaneers at bay for the remainder of the game, winning 17-3.
JWU gets right back on the diamond when they host the Salve Regina Seahawks in a non-conference tilt on Thursday at 4:00pm.
