Box Score 2 The Johnson & Wales Baseball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon against the Lasers of Lasell University. JWU improves to 7-17 (6-4 GNAC) while the Lasers finish at 9-12 (6-2 GNAC).
Game 1: Lasell 6, JWU 3
Lasell opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, scoring their first run on an error before they scored a second on a single to right field, taking a 2-0 lead. Nicolas Fortes (Cranston, R.I.) responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run single for the wildcats that played EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) and Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.).
The Lasers added three runs over the fifth and sixth innings, taking a 5-2 lead. Leone crossed home plate one more time on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Wildcats were unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-3.
Game 2: JWU 13, Lasell 0
JWU responded in the second game with Justin Markell (San Diego, Calif.) on the mound. Markell pitched a complete game shutout for the Wildcats, while the bats came alive to score 13 runs and take the game 13-0.
JWU scored their first runs in the bottom of the third inning, starting off on a Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.) double that drove home the first run. JWU added 12 runs over the remainder of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
JWU gets back on the diamond when they welcome the Salve Regina Seahawks to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex for a 4:00pm first pitch.
