PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JWU (Providence) Director of Athletics
Dana Garfield has announced the hiring of
Colby Greenhalgh '21 as baseball head coach. He replaces Kevin Casey, who stepped down this past summer after accepting a position on the coaching staff at Northeastern University.
Greenhalgh – who spent two seasons as an assistant under Casey here at JWU (2022-23) – was a member of the coaching staff at Conference of New England (CNE) foe Nichols College this past spring. The Plainfield, Connecticut native worked with the hitters, outfielders, and catchers, and the Bison closed 2025 with a team batting average of .311 and 26 wins. Three of Greenhalgh's student-athletes garnered all-region honors.
"I want to thank Dana Garfild and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to come home and further the success of the program," said Greenhalgh. "This was always the long-term goal, to one day take over this program as the head coach. As an alum, it means so much to me to take over a program that helped me get to where I am now. I am excited to bring more alumni back to campus and take this program to new heights."
Additionally, Greenhalgh directed recruiting efforts across New England at Nichols, coordinated team and prospect camps, managed advanced scouting and analytics, and assisted in all fundraising updates.
"It's a pleasure to welcome Colby home to Johnson and Wales University," said Garfield. "He's an up-and-coming coach who has gathered a ton of experience as an assistant coach in a relatively short period of time at both the Division I and III levels. We look forward to him continuing the winning tradition here at JWU."
A three-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) First Team pick (2018-19, 2021) at JWU, Greenhalgh graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports, Entertainment, Event – Management. He was a member of both the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society.
"As a student-athlete, my goal - our team's goal - was always to win a GNAC Championship," said Greenhalgh. "The move to the CNE doesn't change that goal for the program."
Upon graduation, Greenhalgh joined the Wildcats coaching staff and helped guide them to both the 2022 and 2023 GNAC Championship. He organized practice plans and individualized development sessions for hitters, catchers, and outfielders and coordinated recruiting across the northeast region. Additionally, Greenhalgh managed advanced scouting, analytics, and defensive alignments, assisted with strength & conditioning program design, and managed all marketing and social media efforts.
Greenhalgh then spent one season (2024) as an assistant at Quinnipiac, where he worked with both the catchers and outfielders, recruited across the northeast, and assisted with advanced scouting and defensive shifts.
