SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
Jake Eckerle placed first at 133 lbs. for the JWU (Providence) wrestling team at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures event on Sunday, February 25 at Western New England University.
Eckerle capped a 4-0 afternoon with a 13-8 win over Kaya Boyle in the finals. Senior
Thomas DiResta (157 lbs.) and junior
Zachary Weiner (149 lbs.) both placed second in their weight class; DiResta went 4-1 and dropped an 11-9 decision to Sean Tansey (Williams) in the finals while Weiner fell 17-2 to Tye Barker (Coast Guard) in the championship bout.
Sophomore
Maurice Cooper placed second at 174 lbs. as he went 4-1 on the afternoon; his lone defeat came via forfeit. Classmate
Ky'ell Roper posted a 3-1 record and finished third at 184 lbs. while sophomore
Noah Krakower and graduate student
Nicholas DeSola finished 4-5 at 133 lbs. Krakower went 2-1 on the day and DeSola posted a 5-1 mark, his last three wins coming in the consolation bracket.
