WINTHROP, Mass. – Senior
Madison Young has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Young backstopped the Wildcats (14-3, 11-0 GNAC) to a pair of shutout victories to lock up the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the third-consecutive season. The Berkeley Heights, New Jersey native backstopped a defense which allowed just two shots against and zero penalty corners at Anna Maria on Tuesday before holding Regis (MA) to two shots and one penalty corner on Senior Day on Saturday. JWU enters the final conference contest against USJ having allowed just five goals in 11 GNAC contests.
Young – who was named to the GNAC All-Rookie Team in 2022 and GNAC Second Team in 2023 – has appeared in 58 career games for head coach
Lisa Lopes who was also named to the 2023 GNAC All-Tournament Team. She becomes the third JWU student-athlete to garner GNAC weekly honors in 2024, joining
Haley Budenas (Sept. 3) and
Megan Salsinha (Oct. 21).
The Wildcats will host a GNAC Quarterfinal game on Saturday with the opponent and time TBD.
