Jake Eckerle (133 lbs.) captured individual championships for the JWU (Providence) wrestling team at the Wildcat Open Sunday at the Wildcat Center.

Eckerle – seeded No. 1 – capped a perfect 4-0 day with a 6-3 decision victory over Nicholas Gordon (LIU). DeSola, meanwhile, downed Charlie Gruen (Coast Guard) by a 15-6 major decision to close the afternoon 4-0 as well.
Sophomore
Ryan O'Rourke entered the event as the No. 2 seed at 125 lbs. and advanced to the finals, where he fell to Joseph Petrone via fall at 2:16. Classmate
Gabriel Case secured two wins at 157 lbs. to advance to the quarterfinals before he was knocked off.
Graduate student
John Iglesias slipped up in the quarterfinals but advanced to the finals of the consolation bracket to finish fourth overall at 285 lbs. Two of his wins came by fall.
Juniors
Edward Marinilli (157 lbs.) and
Zachary Weiner (149 lbs.), along with sophomore
Mason Franklin (125 lbs.) and freshmen
Jonathan Charles (184 lbs.) and
Vincent Faldetta (149 lbs.), all went 1-1 on the day and advanced to the quarterfinals of their weight class.
