PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 7 JWU-Providence wrestling program was edged by No. 12 TCNJ 22-21 Friday night at the Wildcat Center. The match was tied at 21 at the conclusion of the final bout, and the match criteria to decide a winner was total points, which favored the Lions 67-63.
Graduate student
Ryan DeVivo picked up the first win of the night for the Wildcats with a 13-3 majority decision over Austin Raynor at 184 lbs. Junior
Dylan Harr followed with a fall in 2:26 over Chris Stavrou to put JWU in front, 10-6.
Sophomore
Adolfo Betancur was awarded a win via decision after wrestling Peter Wersinger to a 3-3 draw, extending the Wildcats lead to 13-6. Two matches later, junior
Joziah Fry secured a 17-5 major decision to extend the lead to 17-10.
The Lions responded with a tech fall win at 141 lbs. and a pin at the buzzer at 149 lbs. to move in front by four, 21-17. Freshman and reigning New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week
Jack Richardson closed the evening with a 14-3 major decision over Ryan Datz to draw JWU even at 21.
