PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 2 Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team picked up a 27-9 win over No. 5 Stevens in NCAA Division III wrestling action at Saturday night at the Wildcat Center.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind a pin from freshman and Rhode Island-native Nicholas Torres at 133 lbs. Junior and No. ranked Hayden Brown (149 lbs.) edged No. 7 Hunter Gutierrez, 3-2.
Later, freshman and nationally-ranked No. 1 Joziah Fry (125 lbs.) defeated No. 2 ranked Luke Hoerle by majority decision, 11-4. Graduate student Liridon Leka dominated national qualifier Michael Dooley to the tune of a 15-1 win at 285 lbs, which secured a win for the Wildcats.
Also victorious for JWU were junior Matthew Garcia at 157 lbs. (12-7 decision); senior Ryan DeVivo at 184 lbs. (8-4 decision); and sophomore Dylan Harr at 197 lbs. (14-3 majority decision).
