SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team defeated Coast Guard 23-15 in the finals of the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals Sunday on the campus of Springfield College. The win marked the sixth-consecutive NEWA crown.

The Wildcats blanked Plymouth State 56-0 in the opening round before knocking off Trinity (CT) 47-3 in the quarterfinals and host Springfield 30-13 in the semifinals. Junior Hayden Brown was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. Additionally, longtime JWU head coach Lonnie Morris collected his 415th career win, giving him sole possession of first place amongst New England Conference wrestling coaches.

Against the Bears in the finals, freshman and nationally-ranked No. 1 Joziah Fry won by tech fall at 125 lbs. (23-7 in 5:42); senior Victor Perlleshi was a majority decision winner at 141 lbs.; Brown won by DQ (9-1) in 6:33 at 147 lbs.; graduate student William Hughes won on the winning end of a 3-2 decision at 157 lbs.; and graduate student Michael Ross won by tech fall (16-1) in 6:30 at 174 lbs.
