WORCESTER, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team rolled to a 51-3 win over Trinity (CT) College Saturday afternoon on the campus of WPI.
The Wildcats began the match with three-consecutive pins from senior Ryan DeVivo at 184 lbs. (1:58), graduate student Tommy Wrzesien at 197 lbs. (2:27), and graduate student Liridon Leka at 285 lbs. (2:07), staking them to an early 18-0 lead.
Freshman and national-ranked No. 1 won by forfeit at 125 lbs. before freshman Nicholas Torres won by majority decision at 133 lbs. (9-1) to extend the lead to 40-0. Fall wins from senior Victor Perlleshi at 141 lbs. (1:37), junior Hayden Brown at 149 lbs. (:33), and junior Matthew Garcia (:59), followed by a tech fall win from graduate student Michael Ross, closed out the match.
