Wildcats Swept by Monks

STANDISH, Maine – The Johnson & Wales University baseball team couldn't complete the weekend sweep on Sunday. The Wildcats dropped game one at Saint Joseph's, 9-1, then lost 3-2 to the Monks in eight innings.  

Records:
Saint Joseph's: 23-8, 7-1
Johnston & Wales: 20-13, 7-5 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:
Tim Lombardi: 2-3 (GM 1)
Nick Lloyd: 2-2 (GM 2)

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales started the day by scoring in the top of the first inning. Colby Greenhalgh's single scored Rob Ballinger.

Unfortunately, the Monks evened the game with a run in the bottom of the first then scored three times in the second. SJC got eight runs off JWU starter Keith Grant, who also struck out seven.

Trailing by a run in the top of the seventh of game two, Joe Maracic reached on an error. A Nick Lloyd double moved him to third then Steve Rocchio's ground out scored Maracic.

Will Martin drew a two-out walk then came around to score the winning run on a Greg Emanuelson double. JWU starter James Smiegocki took the loss despite giving up just one earned run with six strikeouts.

Johnson & Wales is back at home Tuesday to take on Salve Regina at 3:30 p.m.
