Hawks hold off Wildcats for 7-5 win

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Redshirt freshman Justin Hernandez drove in three runs for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 7-5 loss to the University of Hartford Tuesday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Fiondella Field.

Hernandez staked JWU to a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the third and later drove in junior Jack Dwyer to tie the game at four in the sixth. Sophomore Yedan Diaz also picked up an RBI as the Wildcats slid to 1-3 in conference play.

Hernandez, junior Jeff Valdez Jimenez, and freshman Sam Schoenberg all finished with two hits. Junior Diego Taveras recorded an RBI with a ninth-inning groundout.

Junior Dylan Young allowed six hits and five runs with four walks and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work in defeat.
