Baseball Drops 10-6 Decision at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Five runs over the third and fourth innings gave Mary Washington the runs it needed to defeat the Johnson & Wales University baseball team on Sunday. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats, 10-6.

Johnson & Wales: 3-3

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales picked up a pair of runs during its first at-bat. Adam Diehl doubled in Raimiel Rodriguez then scored on an Edison Mercado single.

Mary Washington answered with three runs in the bottom of the first then added three more in the third and two in the fourth off JWU starter James Smiegocki.

Diehl factored into two out of JWU's last three runs. He led off the fifth with a home run then scored in the seventh off a Tim Lombardi groundout. Diehl and Aidan Hagarty had four of the Wildcats' six hits.

The Wildcats had runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't close the gap on the Eagles.

Up Next:
Johnson & Wales plays its home opener next Sunday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Mass Maritime.
