Keene State Rallies to Defeat JWU Baseball 6-5

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI – Two runs in the top of the ninth inning pushed the Keene State baseball team past Johnson & Wales University on Saturday. The Owls defeated the Wildcats, 6-5.

Records:
Keene State: 8-4
Johnson & Wales: 7-4

Statistical Leaders:
Colby Greenhalgh (JWU): 3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI
Connor Longley (KSU): 2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI

Of Note:
After Keene State got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, Raimiel Rodriguez's double down the left field line scored Rob Ballinger and put the Wildcats back in the lead. Unfortunately, in the top of the ninth, JWU reliever Josh Mousseau gave up a two-run triple to Abe Graineger to score the winning runs.

David Sevigny threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.

The Owls answered JWU's run in the first with a run in the second then took the lead in the top of the sixth. Tyler Gammie plated Connor Longley with an infield single.

Greenhalgh, who started the bottom of the sixth with a double, scored his second run on an Edison Mercado single. The Wildcats took a 4-2 lead as Mercado and Joe Maracic scored thanks to a KSU fielding error.

The two teams combined for 24 hits. Greenhalgh and Gammie led their respective teams with three hits each.

The late-inning collapse erased a good outing by JWU starter Rich Marshall. He gave up two runs, one unearned, with four strikeouts in six innings.

Up Next:
The Wildcats go on the road Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at Eastern Connecticut State.
