ONEONTA, NY – The sixth-ranked Johnson & Wales  University wrestling team flexed its muscle on Saturday during an impressive performance at the Northeast Duals, hosted by SUNY Oneonta. The Wildcats won all three of their team matches by a total score of 133-12 as they won 27 out of the 30 individual bouts. 

Johnson & Wales started the day by beating 14th-ranked SUNY Cortland, 45-3. It's the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Red Dragons. JWU then beat Niagara Community College, 50-5, and finished the day with a 38-4 victory over the hosts. The three victories improved JWU's record to 4-0.

Seven Wildcats won all three of their matches. Leading the way was sophomore Jay Albis (Fishkill, NY) at 133 pounds. He posted a pair of pins in his first two matches, including one over New York State champion Freddy Eckles, then recorded a 16-7 major decision over No. 8 Austin Sisco of Oneonta.

Junior Joe Ferinde (Nutley, NJ) was the only Wildcat to post a pin in all three of his matches at 141. Eighth-ranked Stephen Jarrell (East Greenwich, RI) recorded two pins and a major decision at 174 pounds. At 125 pounds, Bobby Jordan (Nutley, NJ) recorded two major decisions and a tech fall. Included in his three wins was an 8-0 major decision against Cortland's Andrew Roden in a rematch of last year's NCAA Regional finals. 

At 157 pounds, junior Daniel McBrinn (Ramsey, NJ) racked up the team points with two major decisions and a pin. Senior Mike Labell (Stanhope, NJ) notched a pair of pins and won by forfeit. Sophomore Khamri Thomas (Windsor Locks, Conn.) started the day with a pin then recorded a pair of decisions as part of his three victories.

The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday to play host to 11th-ranked Messiah at 5 p.m.
