BRISTOL, RI – The strong start to the season continued for the Johnson & Wales University wrestling team. The Wildcats finished ahead of three top 10 teams with a second place finish at the Roger Williams Invitational. 

Johnson & Wales scored 133 points, finishing behind the host Hawks. JWU beat #10 York, #5 Stevens and #2 Messiah.

For the second week in a row, senior Stephen Jarrell (East Greenwich, RI) produced a championship at 174 pounds. He pinned his first three opponents then recorded a 22-7 technical fall over Joseph Sindoni of York to win his weight class.

A pair of freshmen made their way to championship bouts. Malik Abdur-Rasheed (Coram, NY) lost in overtime, 8-6, to sixth-ranked Zach Wilhelm of Stevens in the finals of 149 pounds. At 197 pounds, Michael DiNardo (Mahopac, NY) was pinned in the championship match by York's John Shorter.

Junior Bobby Jordan (Woodbridge, NJ) was a third-place finisher at 125 pounds. He recorded a 21-4 tech fall over Bridgewater State's Andrew Valdina. Also coming in third was Jay Albis (Fishkill, NY) after he took down Owen McClave of the Coast Guard, 3-2, at 141 pounds.

Two more Wildcats finished in the top five of their weight class. Jonah Aurelio (Riverside, RI) dropped a tiebreaker at 285 pounds to take fourth. Junior Daniel McBrinn notched a 13-2 major decision to beat Chase Lind of WPI, 13-2, at 157 pounds.

Johnson & Wales is back in action on November 30 when it hosts Bridgewater State at 7 p.m.
