Bridgewater, Mass. -- The Johnson & Wales
University baseball team fell to Bridgewater State, 10-5 in a
non-conference contest on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
After four scoreless innings, Bridgewater took the lead with three
runs in the bottom of the fifth, including an RBI single by Mark
Claffey to go up 3-0. Johnson & Wales responded in the top of
the sixth when an RBI single by junior Teddy Katz
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) and a run scoring single by junior
Bryan Sayers
(Chelmsford, Mass.) cut the lead to 3-2. Tony Buck put the
host Bears up 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single.
Once again, Johnson & Wales responded in the top of the eighth,
scoring three runs, including a two-run home run by Katz to put the
Wildcats on top 5-4. In the bottom of the eighth, Bridgewater State
would score six runs, with a two run single by Matt Greenburg en
route to the 10-5 victory.
Katz was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI while Sayers and
junior Nick Alosco
(Mahopac, N.Y.) each recorded two hits in the setback for
the Wildcats.
Brian Medairos was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI for
Bridgewater State while Greenburg went 2-for-4 with three RBI in
the win for the Bears.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 4-22 while Bridgewater
State improves to 11-8 on the season. The Wildcats will return to
action on Thursday, April 8th when they host Mass.-Maritime for a
non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
