JWU Baseball Falls to Salve Regina, 7-1

Box Score

East Providence, R.I. -- The Johnson & Wales University baseball team lost to Salve Regina, 7-1 in a non-conference contest at Pierce Field on Thursday afternoon.

Salve Regina took the 2-0 advantage in the top of the second on a two run single by junior Jason Sluberski (Verona, N.J.). The visiting Seahawks extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth on a two run double by freshman Nick Dettorre (Wakefield, Mass.). Johnson & Wales chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a run scoring double by freshman Corey Feshler (Manchester, Conn.). That would be as close as the Wildcats would get, however as sophomore Michael O'Neill (Pawtucket, R.I.) belted a solo home run in the fifth and a two run shot in the seventh to propel Salve Regina to the 7-1 victory.

O'Neil was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI while Sluberski went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI for Salve Regina. Junior Brandon Bursie (Smithfield, R.I.) picked up the win for the Seahawks, going two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.

Feshler was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the setback for Johnson & Wales.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 3-18 while Salve Regina improves to 10-8 for the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, April 2nd when they host Babson for a non-conference contest at 3:00 p.m.
