ASHAWAY, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) IHSA program was named Championship Team at the University of Rhode Island (afternoon competition) on Saturday, March 1 at Hunter Ridge. The Wildcats tallied 32 points, placing them ahead of URI (31), Rhode Island College (23), and Roger Williams (22).
Samantha Stepanik took first in both Class 8 Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences and Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences, and was named High Point Rider. Other first-place finishers included
Isabelle Pacella and
Kate Scherer (Class 3 Limit Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat),
Caitlin Talbot (Class 1 Introductory Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat), and
Annika Ormsby (Class 2B Novice Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat).
Scherer shared second-place in Class 4 Limit Hunter Sat Equitation over Fences with
Tori Stedman.
Cadence Mirto and
Grace Taylor finished 2-3 in Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat while
Sarah Walsh claimed second in Class 2B Novice Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat.
"It was good to see our Wildcats regroup and fight hard to earn the Champion Team award for the last regular season competition," said head coach
Dirk Fogg. "All our riders re-focused after the morning and were rewarded for good riding in the second doubleheader competition. Captain
Samantha Stepanik earned High Point rider of the show."
