Four Wildcats place first at Scott Viera Open

BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior Vincent Faldetta, sophomores Jared Spahn and Zach Miller, and freshman Brayden Soleau were all crowned individual champions at the Scott Viera Open Saturday on the campus of Roger Williams University.

Spahn – who entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and finished 4-0 on the day – defeated teammate Ryan Currier via decision (6-4) in the finals of the 149 lb. bracket. Soleau was seeded No. 1 and downed Brandon Lavasta (NEC) in the finals to close the day 4-0 at 285 lbs.

Top-seeded Faldetta (157 lbs.) knocked off David Lisk (Western New England) by a 7-0 decision to cap a 4-0 afternoon. Fifth-seeded Miller, meanwhile, edged out Joshua Nieroda (Roger Williams) 7-6 in the finals of the 184 lb. bracket to polish off a 5-0 day.

Senior Jake Eckerle finished second in the 141 lb. bracket as he fell to Ryan Kozdra (Springfield) 7-0 in 2:13. Senior Ryan O'Rourke also placed second, falling to Jackson Heslin via tech fall (18-3) in the finals.

Junior Luke Montefusco (149 lbs.) and freshman Anthony Fernandez (197 lbs.) each finished the afternoon in third place in their weight class. The sixth-seeded Montefusco was credited with a forfeit win over top-seeded Cqari Bacote (Bridgewater St.) in the blood round final while No. 1 seeded Fernadez took down Kevin Taylor (Sacred Heart) with an 18-0 tech fall win (2:43).

Freshman Jahir Aguilar secured fourth-place at 133 lbs. with a 5-2 record.
