No. 11 Wildcats clipped by No. 1 Auggies, 22-18

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 11 JWU (Providence) wrestling team suffered a 22-18 setback at the hands of No. 1 Augsburg University Friday night at SI Melby Hall.

Senior and No. 5 ranked Adolfo Betancur (285 lbs.) picked up the first points of the evening for the Wildcats with a pin of No. 7 Tyler Raway in 3:18.

Freshman and No. 11 ranked Nico Rivera (125 lbs.) secure a tech fall win to give the Wildcats an 11-5 lead after three matches. Sophomore and No. 4 ranked Peyton Ellis (133 lbs.) extended the lead to 15-5 when he secured a major decision win over No. 9 Chance Suddeth.

The top-ranked Auggies reeled off wins in five of the final six matches to pick up the win. Junior and No. 6 ranked Jack Richardson (165 lbs.) got the Wildcats to within one at 19-18 with a sudden victory overtime in the second-to-last match of the night.
