REHOBOTH, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) IHSA program was named Champion Team at the Salve Regina University show on Saturday at Eastfield Farm LLC.
The Wildcats shared first-place with URI as each finished with 27 points. Salve Regina was named Reserve Champion with 26 points, followed by Roger Williams in third (25 points), and Brown and Rhode Island College in fourth place (24 points each).
Grace Taylor has one of two first-place finishes for JWU as she came out on top in Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat. Freshman
Morgan Hoopes, meanwhile, won Class 2B Novice Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat.
Second-place finishers included junior
Samantha Stepanik (Class 7 Open Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat), sophomore
Scarlett Siskind (Class 6 Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences), and freshman
Annika Ormsby (Class 2B Novice Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat).
Siskind also snared third in Class 5 Intermediate Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat, as did freshman
Kate Scherer in Class 3 Limit Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat. Stepanik (Class 8 Open Hunter Seat Equitation over Fences) and junior
Makayla Williams (Class 4 Limit Hunter Sat Equitation over Fences) each placed fifth in their respective events, and sixth-place finishers included junior
Tori Stedman in Class 3 Limit Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat and freshman
Caitlin Talbot in Class 1 Introductory Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat.
"Our Wildcats fought hard today to earn a share of the Championship Team with URI," said head coach
Dirk Fogg. "The combination of offense and defense helped capture first and second-place finishes by
Grace Taylor & Sam Stepanik in the Open Flat, and
Morgan Hoopes and
Annika Ormsby in Novice Flat, which took points away from the competition.
Scarlett Siskind was the only JWU rider in the intermediate divisions; she placed second in Intermediate Fences and third in Intermediate Flat, which showed consistency with last week's efforts. Rounding out the top points earners was
Kate Scherer with a third-place finish in Limit Flat. Our team is finding its stride."
