GENEVA, N.Y. – JWU-Providence graduate student
Margaret Johnson has been named to the
National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Region 1 First Team.
Johnson finished No. 10 in the GNAC with 31 points, 13 of which came over the final six contests (5-3-13). After picking up a hat trick against Regis (MA) in the GNAC Quarterfinals, she scored the GWG in JWU's 4-1 win over Colby-Sawyer in the conference championship on November 4. Johnson closed the 2023 campaign with four game-winning goals.
A GNAC First Team selection in both 2022 and 2023, Johnson finished her distinguished career No. 2 in program history in goals (42), assist (24), points (108), and game-winning goals (nine).
This year, over 190 Division III student-athletes have been named to
NFHCA Division III All-Region teams sponsored by
The LineUp. Division III teams are separated into six regions: Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV, Region V, and Region VI. Each of these regions recognizes up to 16 student-athletes on both the first team and the second team.
The
NFHCA Division III All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the
NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on December 7, followed by the
NFHCA All-American teams on December 12 and the
NFHCA National Player of the Year on December 15.
The Wildcats won their third-straight GNAC Championship in 2023, posting a 17-3 record and appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season under head coach
Lisa Lopes.
