Wildcats Lose 2-1 Decision to Stevenson in CHC Playoffs

Box Score

REISTERSTOWN, Md. – In just its second season, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team has made significant strides. Unfortunately, the Wildcats are still looking for their first postseason victory as they dropped a 2-1 decision at Stevenson on Saturday.

The Wildcats ended the year with a 9-16-1 record as they more than doubled last year's win total. Stevenson moves to the CHC semifinals with a 14-10-1 mark.

Less than five minutes into the game, the Mustangs struck for the first goal. Johnson & Wales answered in the second period on a Casey Chodkowski (Somerset, Mass.) goal at the 8:31 mark. Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) and Tamara Bowden (Weymouth, Mass.) provided the assists. Stevenson tallied the winning goal eight minutes later.

The Mustangs had a 39-19 advantage in shots. JWU goalie Julia Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) made 37 saves. The Wildcats were 1-3 on the power play compared to 1-6 by the hosts.

With no seniors on the team, the Wildcats should take the next step in the program's evolution in 2017-18.
