Wildcats close historic season with loss to WNE in CNE Semifinals

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team was defeated by Western New England 4-1 Saturday evening in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals at Olympia Ice Center.

Junior Sophia Brea scored for the Wildcats, who entered the contest as the No. 3 seed and finish a historic season under fourth-year head coach Maddy Santore with a program-record 14 wins against 12 losses and one tie.

The No. 2 seed Golden Bears – who improved to 18-7-1 on the season on the season – outshot the Wildcats 38-31 and scored four unanswered goals, finishing 2-for-5 on the power play.

Freshman netminder Avery Hall turned aside 34 shots and finished her rookie season with a 5-5-1 record. Classmate Annalise MacPhee was credited with the assist on Brea's goal and capped her rookie campaign with seven points (0-7-7).

The game marked the final contest for seniors Allyson Barry, Kylie O'Keefe, and Alexia Labre. Both Barry (4-11-15) and O'Keefe (8-5-13) established new career-highs in points this season. Labre, meanwhile, registered a goal and an assist in a defensive, fourth line center role.
