Women's Ice Hockey Falls 1-0 in Overtime to Stevenson

Box Score

STAMFORD, Conn. – In the brief two-year history of the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey program, the Wildcats had never played an overtime game. On Friday, JWU went into the extra period for the first time, but unfortunately came out on the short end as Stevenson prevailed, 1-0, at Chelsea Piers.

The non-conference loss dropped the Wildcats to 4-6. The Mustangs improved to 4-3.

Johnson & Wales' goalie Julia Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) pitched a shutout for the first 60 minutes of the game. Stevenson got the winning goal at the 2:16 mark of the extra frame on a score by Maddy Ricci. Åberg made 42 saves as the Wildcats were out-shot 43-15.

Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.) and Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) each had a team-high four shots.

Johnson & Wales is back on the ice Saturday when it travels to New England College for a 3 p.m. faceoff.
