Box Score SHELTON, Conn. - The scoring was lower on Saturday after the Johnson & Wales and Sacred Heart women's ice hockey teams combined for 10 goals the night before. Unfortunately, the result was still the same for the Wildcats as they lost 2-0.
The loss dropped JWU's record to 4-9 while SHU improved to 8-6-1.
The Pioneers got on the board quickly as Olivia Bryant put the hosts up 1-0 just 3:37 into the opening period. Neither team could find the back of the net until the third period when Taylor Moreland gave SHU a two-goal lead with 12:44 remaining in the game.
Sacred Heart peppered JWU goalie Julia Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) but she held her own. The rookie turned away 59 shots as the Pioneers had a 61-to-10 margin in shots. The Wildcats did a better job on the penalty kill as SHU was 0-of-7 but JWU couldn't convert any of its six opportunities.
Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) and Casey Chodkowski (Somerset, Mass.) each took a team-high two shots.
Johnson & Wales isn't back on the ice until the New Year when it hosts New England College at 6:55 pm on January 6.
