PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University wrestling team looked like the sixth-ranked squad in the country during its first dual meet. The Wildcats made quick work of visiting Bridgewater State, 47-3, on Tuesday.

After Bobby Jordan (Nutley, NJ) received a forfeit at 125 pounds, the Wildcats got three-straight pins. Tenth-ranked Jay Albis (Fishkill, NY) pinned Jason Sulinski in 2:30 at 133 pounds. At 141 pounds, DJ Tirelli (Oradell, NJ) only needed 36 seconds to pin Logan Larsen. Junior Jamiel Stapleton (Malone, NY) took down Mark Kagiwada at the 1:49 mark of their 149-pound match.
Bridgewater State got on the board at 157 pounds when Eric Kerr beat Daniel McBrinn (Ramsey, NJ), 3-1.
Freshman Dale White (Fishkill, NY) moved up a weight class to beat Andrew Szilagyi, 11-7, at 165 pounds. No. 8 Stephen Jarrell (East Greenwich, RI) put on a takedown clinic in his 30-15 tech fall victory at 174 pounds.
Senior Pete Hailer (East Milton, Mass.) was an 11-7 winner at 184 pounds. JWU ended the match with a 28-13 tech fall by Khamri Thomas (Windsor Locks, Conn.) at 197 pounds and a pin at 285 pounds by Jonah Aurelio (Riverside, RI).
The Wildcats are on the road this weekend when they travel to the Spartan Invitational, hosted by York College.
