PAWTUCKET, RI – A pair of second-period goals lifted visiting Chatham University to victory over the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team. The Cougars picked up their first win of the season defeating the Wildcats, 4-2, on Sunday.

Of Note:
Chatham got the scoring started in the first period when Erika Martin put back the missed shots of Kristina Block and McKenzie Haskins. The Cougars had a decided 36-22 margin in shots.  JWU goalie Julia Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) made 32 saves but was saddled with the loss.

Johnson & Wales responded with the equalizer less than one minute into the second period. Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) scored the first goal of her collegiate career with assists from Samantha Kawejsza (Warners, NY) and Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.).

However, the Cougars responded with a pair of goals from Kassandra Peterson. She jammed a rebound passed Åberg for her first goal then rifled a shot from the point that put CU up 3-1.

Chatham got another put back goal from Haskins at the 8:49 mark of the third period, but the Wildcats pulled within two on an Alexis Harle (Calgary, Alberta) goal one minute later. She took the pass from Linn Fernström (Karlstad, Sweden) and scored on a spinning backhander to make it 4-2.

Johnson & Wales goes on the road next weekend when it takes on Stevenson Friday in a non-conference, neutral site game at Chelsea Piers in Stamford, Conn.
