Women's Ice Hockey Loses 2-0 at Becker

Box Score

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – A pair of second-period goals was the difference as the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team lost at Becker on Friday. The Hawks prevailed 2-0 at the New England Sports Center.

The loss dropped Johnson & Wales to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Colonial Hockey Conference. Becker got its first conference victory of the year to improve to 1-4 in the CHC and 2-5 overall.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first period. A Taylor Davis penalty in the second period put the Hawks on the power play. They took advantage of the opportunity when Brianna Luciani scored at the 8:35 mark. Eight minutes later Baily Coons scored to put the hosts up 2-0.

Johnson & Wales had its opportunities to score, outshooting Becker 30-17, but BC goalie Madison Rigsby turned away all 30 shots for the shutout. JWU keeper Kami Weiner (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) made 15 saves in defeat.

Alexis Harle (Calgary, Alberta) had a team-high six shots while three other Wildcats had four shots on goal.

The Wildcats will get another shot at the Hawks when the two teams face off at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Lynch Arena.
