Roman Wainwright scored a pair of goals to send the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win at Western New England Thursday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Olympia Ice Center.
Juniors
Chris Alexander and
Connor Nelson, along with sophomore
Cullen Hennessy, also tallied goals for the Wildcats, who moved to 3-2-1 with the win (1-2-0 CNE). Freshman
Jack Gerne racked up a pair of assists for his first collegiate multi-point effort and junior netminder
Jake Inzirillo turned aside 24 shots for his second win of the season.
The Golden Bears grabbed an early 1-0 lead before Nelson's seventh tuck of the season at 8:36 of the first knotted the game at one. Alexander potted the only goal of the second at 4:15 to send the Wildcats to the locker room with a one-goal advantage after 40 minutes of play.
In the third, Wainwright struck for two goals in a span of 1:12 midway through the stanza as JWU opened up a 4-1 lead. The Golden Bears cut their deficit to two with a PP goal at12:02, but Hennessy put the game away with an empty netter at 19:34.
The Wildcats outshot the home team 42-26. Nelson, Hennessy, Alexander, and Wainwright, along with junior
Harout Torosian, sophomore
Joseph Sciabarra, and freshman
Brad Guden, all notched an assist in the win.
